Bags with Printed Bands

Bags with printed bands combine the strengths of a net and a bag in a single pack. The body is an extruded net that lets fresh produce breathe and stay in full view, and along it runs a custom-printed coloured band that carries your brand and product information. The result is a pack that protects the contents, sells them on the shelf and is easy to carry home.
We supply bags with printed bands complete, with the band printed to your own artwork and specifications. They are widely used for citrus fruit, apples, potatoes, onions and many other kinds of loose produce, and they are one of the main formats in our fruit and vegetable packaging range.

How a net bag with a printed band works

The extruded net is the base of the pack. It holds the produce securely, lets air move freely around it and gives the shopper a clear view of what is inside. On its own, though, a net has very little room for branding or information, and it is not the easiest thing to carry when it is full.
That is where the band comes in. A strip of printed film is joined to the net, and it changes what the pack can do. It strengthens the bag so it can hold more weight, it can be fitted with handles, and it gives the pack a cleaner and more finished look. All the good properties of the net stay exactly as they were, because the produce is still surrounded by open mesh.

Practical packaging that carries more weight

The band adds structure exactly where a net bag needs it. Handles built into the band spread the load, so a heavy bag of potatoes or oranges is comfortable to lift and does not stretch out of shape on the way to the car. The band also makes the bag more durable during transport and handling, which means fewer torn or damaged packs at the store and fewer losses for the retailer.
Because the band improves the bag’s ability to carry weight, it widens the range of products and pack sizes you can sell in a net. Packs that would be awkward in a plain net become easy to handle once a band is added.

A printed band that speaks to your customers

The printed band is the part of the pack that does the talking. It gives you space for your logo, the product name and variety, the country of origin, the weight, a barcode and any message you want the shopper to notice, whether that is a recipe idea, a seasonal promotion or the story of the farm. Since the band is printed to your design, it works like a small billboard that travels with the product from the packhouse to the kitchen table.
Clear branding helps a product stand out in a crowded fresh produce aisle. When shoppers can look at the produce through the net and read a well-designed band at the same time, they get the quality check and the story behind the product in a single glance. That is hard to achieve with any other kind of net pack.

Three formats for different packing lines

Bags with printed bands are available in three formats. All of them combine a net with a printed band, but they differ in how the two parts arrive at your packhouse and when they are joined. The right choice depends on your packing machine, your volumes and how much flexibility you need between products.
Flat Net
Flat Net is the format in which we deliver the extruded net and the printed band separately. You combine them yourself at the packing stage, where the band is welded to the net to close the pack. Because the final combination happens on your line, you can pair the same net with different bands and create packaging that fits each product exactly. Flat Net brings out the visual appeal of the produce and the special features of your brand. Read more on the Flat Net page.
Verti Flat Net
Verti Flat Net arrives with the extruded net and the custom-printed band already welded together and wound on a roll. There is no joining step on your line, so the biggest advantages are speed and ease of application. It is a strong choice for high-volume packing where every bag should look the same, and it keeps the produce looking good even in very large volumes. See the Verti Flat Net page for the details.
Dpack Net
Dpack Net pairs a tubular net with a printed band. As with Flat Net, the net and the band are combined during packing, so you can match them to each product and highlight what makes it special. Dpack Net brings together the benefits of a tubular net and a custom-printed band in one pack. The Dpack Net page explains how the format works.
Which produce suits bags with printed bands?
Any loose produce that benefits from airflow and visibility can be packed this way. Citrus fruit, apples, potatoes and onions are the classic examples, and many packers also use the format for avocados, kiwis and other produce sold in retail packs. The net colour can be chosen to flatter the product inside, and the band can follow your own brand guidelines or a retailer’s private label design.
Bags with printed bands are also a good way to give a product range a consistent look. One band design can run across several products, or each variety can get its own colour and message while the overall style stays recognisable on the shelf.
